OCD Organized Is Now an Approved Acumen Provider

We’re proud to share an important update for OCD Organized and the people we serve across Monmouth, Ocean and Atlantic Counties in New Jersey, as well as the greater New Jersey area: OCD Organized is now approved to work with adults with disabilities through Acumen.

This is a meaningful milestone for Joan Rowley and for the continued growth of OCD Organized. It reflects something Joan has believed from the start: every person deserves to live in a space that feels safe, workable, and supportive of daily life.

Good organization is not about making a home look a certain way. It is about creating systems that match the person using the space, including their routines, strengths, pace, and support needs.

What this approval means

Being approved through Acumen opens the door for OCD Organized to serve more adults with disabilities through a structure connected to self-directed services. In self-direction, the individual receiving services, or a representative acting on their behalf, has decision-making authority over certain services and supports. Acumen’s role as a fiscal agent is to help manage the financial and administrative side of that model, including employer paperwork, payroll, tax reporting, and related compliance requirements.

For OCD Organized clients, this approval means Joan can now be part of a support system that is built around personal choice and individualized needs. That matters because organizing support is never one-size-fits-all. One client may need a calmer bedroom with easier access to everyday items. Another may need a kitchen arranged for safer meal prep, a paperwork system that reduces confusion, or a more manageable closet, bathroom, or home office setup. The goal is not perfection. The goal is to make daily life easier, more comfortable, and more functional.

Why Acumen matters

Acumen Fiscal Agent was founded in 1995 and describes itself as one of the oldest and largest fiscal management service providers in the country focused on self-directed populations and programs that use home care assistance in communities across the United States. Its mission is to facilitate freedom, choice, and opportunity through innovative fiscal agent solutions.

That mission lines up closely with the values behind OCD Organized. Joan’s work has always centered on practical support, dignity, and systems that are built around real people, not generic checklists. Acumen’s role in supporting self-directed services is significant because it helps individuals and families access services in a way that gives them more say in how support is delivered. Acumen also provides state-specific resources for New Jersey participants and maintains customer service and training resources to help people navigate the process.

Why this matters for adults with disabilities

For many adults with disabilities, the setup of a home can directly affect independence, comfort, stress levels, and day-to-day routines. A poorly arranged space can create frustration and extra barriers. A thoughtfully organized one can support easier movement, clearer routines, and more confidence in handling everyday tasks.

That is why this new approval is so important. It means more people may be able to access organizing support that is tailored to how they actually live. Joan works with the person in front of her, not against them. She looks at how the space is being used, what is getting in the way, and what changes would make the home more supportive. That might include simplifying storage, reducing visual overload, creating easier access to frequently used items, or building routines that are realistic and easy to maintain.

A natural next step for OCD Organized

This opportunity is a natural extension of Joan’s work. OCD Organized has always been about helping people move from overwhelm to relief with compassion and practical solutions. Becoming an approved Acumen provider allows Joan to expand that mission and support more adults in creating homes that help them thrive.

She is deeply grateful for the chance to do that work.
